What Causes Bilateral Inappropriate Reflex Action?

I have pretty regular bilateral, inappropriate reflex actions that vary in timing and amplitude. Hit one knee cap with a doctor s rubber hammer and both knees jerk up together or sometimes all four extremities jerk together if only one is tapped. I also have both types of tremors in both arms (right handed and condition is worse on right). Sometimes the entire body will have a major jerk. If I hold something very tightly with one of my hands, the tremors greatly increase. If done with both hands, then both will tremor in sync. Doctors still trying to find cause. Thoughts?

Hello,

The following are various causes of hyperreflexia and intention tremors. Your tremors are called intention tremors as they don't occur during rest. Hyper reflexia is seen mainly in upper motor neuron lesions like amyotropic lateral sclerosis, brain infections such as encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, vitamin B12 deficiency, hyperthyroidism, and anxiety disorders.

A few causes of intention tremors are multiple sclerosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, alcohol abuse, Wilson disease, spino cerebellum ataxia, and cerebellum disorders. Each and every condition mentioned above must be ruled out by thorough clinical examination and necessary tests. Kindly consult a neurology expert for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
