What Causes Bitter Taste In Mouth And Burning Sensation Along With Stomach Pain?
Hello... the last 24 hours I ve noticed that my mouth has a bitter taste... my throat has a burning feeling while in the meantime a strong belly pain woke me up from my sleep... Going to the toilet was quite helpful as it was mainly for passing wind.. what could the cause be?
Hi Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the burning sensation and stomach pain.
The features described in your query are suggestive of a condition due to reflux of stomach acid into your food pipe and throat referred to as Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
This could be due to taking hot, spicy, fatty or acidic foods (carbonated sweet drinks) or sleeping immediately after having dinner or alcohol.
Preventive measures:
1. Avoid alcohol and spicy, fatty or acidic foods that trigger GERD 2. Eat smaller meals, avoid eating close to bedtime 3. Loose weight if needed 4. Wear loose-fitting clothes
Oral PPI drug like Omeprazole taken once daily is found to be effective in the treatment for GERD.
