What Causes Black Colored Bleeding During Periods?

Hi. I am 23 years old. I just had my periods. Apart from the 1st drop of blood that comes out the remaining was black in Colour. I had sex for the 1st time a week before my periods started, although I have had oral sex before. Also my periods were 4 days early. What could be the reason for this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The problem of experiencing black colour blood during your periods could be due to retained blood due to rupture of hymen and mixed with semen, as you are giving the history of having intercourse for the first time. The colour could be black or brown during the first few times of having intercourse. Gradually, the colour would become normal.
In case, such problem persist, you need to undergo an ultrasound abdomen scan and per speculum examination by consulting Gynecologist for the same.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
