What Causes Black Coloured Bowels Post A Choleocystectomy?

Hello. Not sure if this is normal, I just had my gallbladder and a ruptured hernia removed 2weeks tomorrow. I was in emergency last week do to server back pain and a allergic reaction from an antibiotic. They also said I had some fluids around where they took my gallbladder out. However now I m having black, tary almost like coffee grounds, bowl movements. Should I be worried??? Thanks! Peggy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Peggy
This indicates an upper gastrointestinal bleed like from gastritis or a peptic ulcer. It wouldn't be related to your surgery but you need to let your doctor know about this since you'll need upper endoscopy to determine exactly what's bleeding
