What Causes Black Discoloration On The Knuckle?

My husband put on gloves for morning chores. It was 11 degrees when we went out to the barn. His index finger was very cold cuz it got wet. We were back in the house in less than 45 minutes. The skin from nail to 2nd knuckle is black and swollen. No pain or throbbing, just a little numb. There is one tiny white spot on the pad of his finger. It isn t a bump and it doesn t itch. Any idea what this is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Seems vascular insufficiency related issue due to the cold exposed area.

Needs attention at ER for the need of peripheral doppler of the upper limb and further cure.

At home, you can immerse the part in warm lukewarm water for a period of 10-15 minutes to see for the circulation changes further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
