What Causes Black Mucus Stools With Diarrhoea Post A Colonoscopy?

Hi. I am a 44 yr old female with Crohns. I had a right hemi colectomy in November and have been for a follow up colonoscopy this afternoon. I have just passed a lot of black mucosy diarreah. Scope looked normal but the doctor had trouble getting the scope round which never happens. I have a lot of right upper pain and my blood pressure was very low on return to ward. Also had 12 biopsies taken. Thankyou

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to minor mucosal injuries and will settle by itself. the bowel preparation prior to the procedure might have aggravated the problem. Consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated. As of now lactobacillus tablets can be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
