Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son went to the doctor this evening complaining for a while now that he had spots on the back of his throat. I had looked several times but did not see anything. Tonight was different, I noticed he had 3 black spots in a row at the back of his throat, the spots are very small. He is constantly clearing his throat, and horking. The doctor said he wasn t sure what it was and thought he should be referred to a throat specialist. I was not at the hospital with him, he took himself and then later informed me. What could this be and should I be worried? He has been complaining about his throat for a few months now.
Black spots in the oral cavity including at the back of throat may be due to many harmless conditions like moles, hyperpigmentation or leakage from dental fillings etc. In extreme rare cases, this type of spots may be due to oral melanoma (A type of oral cancer). Hence, in the case of your son perhaps doctor has rightly advised to consult ENT specialist to confirm / rule out the presence of oral cancer along with any other pathology, if present.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
