What Causes Black Stool After An Ileostomy?

I have had black stool from my ileostomy for two weeks now. I did eat beans and rice a couple of days ago and severe cramping occurred. I have become very weak and dehydrated. Have been eating crackers with salt, Gatorade, some green tea and just started eating a little fruit. Still very weak.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The black stool is due to accumulated blood in the GI tract following surgery of ileostomy. If persistent beyond 3 weeks must consult the gastrosurgeon.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
