General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pepto Bismol can cause darkening of the stool, and you don't need to worry about it. You can feel heartburn coming from gastroesophageal reflux. I would suggest you a Fibrogastroscopy to see from inside your esophagus, stomach, and a part of small bowel to clear what exactly you have. It may be just reflux, and you should use medications like pantoprazole. Depending on your age, I would also suggest an EKG to rule out any heart problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anila Skenderi
