Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on Warfarin and my last INR test was high. Two weeks ago my RA doctor put me on Sulindac for inflammation, and last week I was put on Amoxicillin due to a cat bite. This week I have had black stools like coffee grounds, weakness, faint, cold sweats, nausea and decreased appetite. Can these symptoms be a sign of medication side effects or my blood being too thin? Beverly
The black stools you are describing are most likely from blood coming from somewhere in your stomach or intestines. As blood goes through your digestive system, it turns black as it gets digested.
It is more likely to be from your stomach or upper part of your intestines, and perhaps the anti-inflammatory medication you were taking caused a stomach ulcer that is bleeding.
Regardless, you should be evaluated soon (in the next few days) for anaemia and have your stool checked for blood, and may need a scope to look at your stomach.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
