Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Underneath both of my big toe nails I have noticed what appears to be bruising, black in color. I injured one toe about six months ago, but the affected area has not disappeared from normal nail growth. I did not have an injury to the other toe nail. They are only slightly sensitive to pressure but not painful.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain black discoloration of big toe nails can be due to a number of causes like fungal infection, traumatic injury, wearing very tight shoes chronically, while at times can be due to a malignant condition known as Malignant melanoma..
I would suggest you to consult a Podiatrist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and advise you certain investigations including biopsy to rule out the exact cause of discolouration and treat you accordingly..
Many a times no treatment is required while at times in case of fungal infection antifungal oral as well as topical medications can be advised..
In cases of hematoma secondary to trauma nail removal followed by removal of hematoma or at times cautery can be advised to you..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
