What Causes Blackish Vaginal Discharge With Streaks Of Blood?

Seven years ago i menstrated for 18 months. I was treated with hormones and the bleeding stopped. The doctor diagnosed me with endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. I havent had any bleeding since. Now for 2 days I have had a black discharge with some blood in it. I am very bloated and cramping. Do I need to see a doctor?

Dear patient,
Thanks for your concern about your health and welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Black vaginal discharge occurs in women who are on hormone therapy. For example, you mentioned that you were suffering from atypical endometrial hyperplasia. This occurs when a natural hormone (chemical) in the body, called estrogen acts on the lining of the womb and another hormone called progesterone triggers off menstruation. Now, if progesterone is lacking, then the lining of your womb gets thicker resulting in endometrial hyperplasia. You have not mentioned the exact name of the medication / hormone that you were taking for endometrial hyperplasia. Most of the times, progestin is prescibed, either as a cream or as an IUD. This treatment can cause black vaginal discharge. I politely suggest that you see an OBGYN doctor as regards this discharge. I frankly feel that there is nothing wrong with you. Kindly take an appointment today with your OBGYN.
