Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a bleach taste in my mouth in the morning. After I start coughing and spitting up phlegm. The taste is after I cough. What is it? I have cold but in process of quitting smoking. I'm down to 5 cigs a day from pack. So I know I'm coughing more because of getting rid of the mucus that is coming up. Mornings ars worse than night or mid day.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain bleach like taste in mouth after coughing up phlegm can be due to throat infection leading to post nasal drip.. Other causes can be sinus infection, upper respiratory tract infection, acid reflux, lung infection etc. Infected phlegm can taste or smell abnormally leading to foul taste in mouth too.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly.. You can be advised to take antibiotics and mucolytics.. As of now you should do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
