General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suggest you to take a at home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy as a possible cause of spotting. Once tested at home, consider seeing a general physician or GUM clinic to get examined. There are various causes of spotting after intercourse. However, most women in reproductive age group show spotting after intercourse due to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or various sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia. Unfortunately, unlike condoms the use of birth control pills offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
