What Causes Bleeding After Sex Followed By Spotting While Using IUD Skyla?
HI, in december i got an IUD skyla specifically and I have had problems with bleeding after sex. I rarely have any spotting and haven t gotten periods, but after sex i have spotting for a day or two. This is very frustrating and i wanted to know if it is normal and how i can stop it from happening.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Insertion of intra-uterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs) is often associated with side effects like abdominal cramping, irregular menstruation etc. These side effects occur after insertion of IUD and decrease with each cycle. However, bleeding after sex may not be associated with IUD insertion. Bleeding after sex is seen in conditions like cervical erosion, cervicitis, cervical growth, vaginitis, endometritis, endometrial growth etc. Thus, clinical assessment of the genital tract is required to look for any abnormality in the genital tract. If any abnormality is detected, it has to be managed accordingly.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
