Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was cleaning my sons ear with a qtip and it started bleeding! He cried and then I saw blood coming out. I took a towel with warm water and wiped it off it stopped. It was right after his shower now he is sleeping. We are on s beach vacation on an island. What should I do at this point? And can he go into the pool, beach water? He is 6 years old. Thank u.
It could possibly be because you went too deep with the q-tip or even just dry damaged skin from all the heat and sun that was aggravated and got damaged from the use of the q-tip.
Make sure you use a q-tip only once a day in children as they have very sensitive skin, and do not use strong soaps to clean the inside grooves of their external ear as this can result in dry and damaged fragile skin in the region.
It is best to avoid taking him into any water bodies for about a day so his wound can dry up, be more careful and also visit a doctor once you get back home.
Best wishes.
