What Causes Bleeding Between Periods With History Of Having Light Periods?

I always have very light and irregular periods that are usually only brown blood. I can normally get away with only using panty liners during them too. I just ended what I thought was my period about 5 days ago but today I m bleeding again and its bright red with a few clots like a regular period should be. I ve been trying to lose weight and lost about 5 pounds in the last few weeks. I also have unprotected sex with my husband, but I took a pregnancy test before my brown period showed up and it was negative. Should I be worried about having a second period so close to the one that just ended? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

Your symptoms do indicate a possible hormonal imbalance. But if you are nearing 40 years of age we should consider peri- or pre- menopause which could be the cause for your symptoms.

But if you are no where near that age group then you should be elaborately evaluated for conditions that can cause a hormonal imbalance like polycystic ovaries, etc. Please visit your doctor for further evaluation.

Best wishes
