Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you! My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter was playing in the sand by the lake in Muskoka today and my daughter noticed bleeding from behind the ears - both ears and then on her scalp! No itching no complaining, just bleeding - can you help diagnose what this could be? Should they go to a hospital?
Noted the history about your 2 1/2 year old granddaughter playing in sand by the lake, developed bleeding from scalp and behind both ears, no other symptoms. This is surely serious hence should be taken to the Hospital asap. The possible causes can be some sort of insect bites harboring in the sand and the baby might have thrown sand on scalp as is known to happen commonly. Some bleeding or coagulation disorders can also cause such bleeding without itching and pain. Consult a Pediatrician and take second opinion of a Hematologist if the bleeding and coagulation profile indicates so. Clinical evaluation will help further to know the exact cause and get treated accordingly. Till then apply liquid Povidone iodine locally to avoid secondary infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
