What Causes Bleeding From Lungs Inspite Of Having Pneumonia And CHF Flare Up?
I have been hospitalized 5X in the past 2 years with pneumonia and CHF flare up. I was unresponsive at home when my husband awoke beside me. There was blood streaked sputum on my mouth, but when I was lifted up there was a massive amount of blood on the pillowcase, sheets etc. None of that was addressed in the hospital. An ambulance transported me to the hospital all but 1 time. My question is why was I bleeding from my lungs?
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Blood in sputum is known as haemoptysis. And it is seen in both pneumonia and CHF (congestive heart failure). In pneumonia due to infection from the organism, blood vessel irosion is seen and this causes blood in sputum. So in pneumonia, control of Infection is needed to stop haemoptysis. In CHF due to congestion, blood remains in the lung vessels and make them dilated. These dilated vessels are easy to rupture and cause haemoptysis. So in CHF diuretics are needed to relieve congestion and thus stop haemoptysis.
