Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bleeding From Nose Of A Child While On Bisolvon And Paracetamol?
My 1o-year-old daughter has been given Bisolvon and paracetamol for the last two days for a chesty cough and temperature. She sneezed about half an hour ago and has a slow nosebleed now. I have given her tissues to hold to her nose and a cold flannel with water from a water cooler to put on the bridge of her nose. It has slowed but not stopped.
Does she have any nasal discharge along with the fever and cough? Any associated headache? Nose bleeds in children are most commonly caused by dryness of nasal mucosa and nose pricking. But this can suggest a local infection like rhinitis or sinusitis also.
Sitting stooping forward with pinched nose can help stop bleeding for now. I also used to give nasal decongestants like oxymetazoline nasal drops for local application for 3 days.
If there is headache or purulent nasal discharge, or if the fever continues beyond 48 hours, kindly take her to pediatrician as this may suggest infection needing antibiotic treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
