What Causes Bleeding Gums And Bad Odor In The Mouth Post Teeth Bridge Placement?

I had a tooth extracted about a year ago & a bridge was placed. Approximately 2-3 weeks afterwards I started having pain. My dentist removed the bridge & made it smaller to fit better. We thought this may be the problem since it felt so tight & my gum between the bridge & a supporting tooth felt pinched. It seemed to have helped some so but always had a feeling of something wasn't right. A few months later I started noticing a bad odor & tenderness in the same area. I went back to my dentist & asked him for help. He did an x-ray & said he didn't see any infection but put my antibiotics for prevention. Well, it's been going on a year now & approximately 10 (or more) rounds of antibiotics & the smell is horrid. I still have drainage of this nasty stuff & tenderness. When I close around & under the bridge my gum still bleeds. The bleeding has occurred since I've had the bridge placed. The odor is so bad! Im a cosmetologist & have lost clients because of this. I know because I can just tell when we are talking at close range. I have almost given up on talking to anyone because of the embarrassing odor.

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that due to placement of bridge either there is gap between the gum and the bridge and food is accumulating in that area leading to bacterial growth causing Infection and bad smell. Another cause can be secondary decay in the teeth that are used as a support. I would suggest you to consult a Prosthodontist and get evaluated.

In case if the bridge is not fitting well and the gum is infected then removing the bridge followed by deep scaling and fabrication of a new bridge can help..In case if tooth is decayed then it has to be treated by Filling or Root canal treatment. As of now do antiseptic mouthwash gargle, warm saline gargle and keep the area clean.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
