Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I awake every morning with blood in my mouth.. There are no sores or bite wounds in my mouth, my gums are not bleeding, I have no loose teeth and there is no trauma or injury to my tongue.. The blood is very dark and covers most if not all of my tongue.. I sometimes spit out clotted blood that had been in between my cheek and gum and I occasionally have dried blood that runs down my chin.. I never chewed tobacco or smoked and I don t cough up blood, but I do have to force up phlegm to properly clear my throat and that phlegm is blood colored.. what can this be..?!
Blood in the mouth is either due to issues with the respiratory tract or the gastrointestinal tract.
Since there are no obvious lesions that you can see, then it is best for you to be reviewed by your doctor. The fact that you have increased mucus production may indicate that it may be related to issues of the respiratory tract particularly severe sinusitis. This can cause a post nasal drip that can irritate and cause inflammation and bleeding.
In some persons the use of anti histamine/decongestant combination is helpful though this can take 2 weeks for an effect. EG benadryl d, claritine d, allegra d or zyrtec d
I hope this helps
