What Causes Bleeding In The Throat And Nose?

This morning after brushing my teeth, I spit out blood. Thinking it may have been just from soar gums, I dismissed it. But throughout the morning I can still feel something in the back of my nose/throat area. I have the taste of blood in my mouth and when I try to clear my nasal cavity/throat, I continue to spit out bright red blood. I am hypothyroid, but am on medication for it. I ve been perfectly healthy lately, no soar throat, cough, congestion or anything. Why would I continue to bleed randomly from my throat/nose? Is this something serious I need to get checked out; if so, who would I see (an ENT specialist)?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your question.

I do understand your pain and discomfort.

As per your history is concerned it is Portal Hypertension / Varices so a GI endoscope is required and its treatment is surgical, you need to contact with any general surgeon for it.

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks
