My 11 yr old son has nose bleeds from vein in his nose, and has a stuffy nose if he doesnt blow everyday. Yesterday he had a nose bleed twice while swimming and then the back of his head started hurting him but went away. Tonight at church he said he can hear his heartbeat in his ears, should i take him to er?
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. After going through the description, I understand the concern for your 11 year old son. Nose bleeding is called 'epistaxis', wherein the bleeding occurs due to fragile blood vessels in the nose from 'Little's area'. It is usually precipitated by nasal congestion and due to habitual picking of nose. Whenever it bleeds, just pinch his nose tightly for about 5 minutes with head bent forwards and ask him to breath through his mouth. If the bleeding happens often, the treatments which are available include cauterisation of blood vessels by means of chemical cautry or electro cautry. Kindly get evaluated by an ENT Surgeon to decide on what things can be done next to completely stop his nose bleeding. All the best and wish him good health.
