What Causes Bleeding Of Upper Gums While Using Sleep Apnea Mouthpiece?

I just had a sleep apnea mouthpiece made special for my teeth, it has helped a ton, but I've noticed in the upper right back side, it bleeds. I'll take the top piece out in the morning and there will be a little blood. I'll wash it out and rinse/brush my teeth. No bleeding during the day...is it because that part of the piece was formed too tight around the back gum area?
Thanks.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain it seems that some portion of your mouthpiece used for sleep apnea is rubbing hard against the gum mucosa and it is leading to pain and bleeding..

If there is no bleeding during the day then the chances of having any other problem like gum infection are less..

Nothing to worry, just wear the mouthpiece with a bit loose grip and you can put a piece of sterile gauze or cotton between the mouth piece and gum to avoid traumatising the gum mucosa..

If the area is painful and ulcerated you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Regards.
