What Causes Blisters In The Hands And Swelling On The Tongue?

My brother age 66 has been dealing first with blisters on his hands and feet, rashes, going back to May, also tongue is swelling which was thought to be an allergic reaction, also facial swelling. This swelling happened three times and caused him to be admittedfor a day or two. He is taking antihistamines now, switched from his ace in Hibbett her blood pressure medicine to a different one, and was given steroids if swelling happens again plus has to go to the emergency room. He was told not to take ibuprofen. He now hasswelling is so badly in his knees, his arms hurt everything hurts. Today he went to his primary who drew blood, not sure what he s checking for, but gave him a steroid and an anabiotic because he said he had a fever. His wife had to drive him to the doctor today because my brother can t walk, they had to bring a wheel chair. He can t sleep upstairs in his bedroom because he can t walk up there. Should the MD test for RA? Is there a test fou Lupus as well?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your brother seem to be related to an allergic reaction.

I suggest continuing using antihistamines such as Cetirizine.

I also suggest using Calamine lotion for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
