Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bloating, Cramps, Diarrhea And Anal Itching While Treating GERD?
I have been on Aciphex for GERD for over 10 years. About 1 1/2 weeks ago, I started having bloating, cramps, diarrhea and anal itching. I stopped taking Aciphex about a week ago and I am having all these same symptoms still. Also this morning I had hypersalivation for about 30 seconds when I woke up this morning Am I getting these symptoms because I have quit taking Aciphex, do you think? Although I had them before I stopped.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history and understood the concerns. Your symptoms of bloating, cramps, diarrhea and anal itching are not related to Aciphex or GERD as you are taking this medications for such a long time. These are suggestive of intestinal infection. I would advise you the following in such a situation. Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation and investigations of stool and blood and to get a proper prescription based antibiotic active against intestinal infection, Metronidazole. Take probiotics. Boiled and cooled water and homemade fresh foods only. Plenty of oral fluids and electrolyte solution for maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance.
