What Causes Blocked Ear And Echoing After Treated Ear Infection?
I am currently being treated for an ear infection with antibiotics and a steroid drug started these meds on Sunday my ear is still feeling blocked, and throbbing and I can not hear well . I also hear echoing when I talk. How long will this last? I thought I would feel better already.
Hi, Welcome to healthcare magic. I had gone through your question. I can understand your concern. This could be due eustachian tube dysfunction. This tube connects the ear with back of nose. This tiny tube ventilates and drains the ear. I recommend the following. 1) Continue steroids as prescribed. 2) Oxymetazoline nasal drops for 6 days. 3) Valsalva Maneuver : The Valsalva maneuver is performed by attempting to forcibly exhale while keeping the mouth and nose closed. This will open the eustachian tube and ventilates and drains the ear. Repeat this maneuver for 6 times a day for 7 days. 4) This may take upto 7 to 10 days for recovery You will be fine. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help. Wish you a good health and speedy recovery. Regards, Dr Paparaja S MBBS MS
