Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was sick these past 2 weeks. Went to urgent care for assistance as I was not able to get into doc soon enough. They gave me antibiotic. Before I went into see the doc, I had stated my ears were blocked and I could not hear, and he said they were red and inflamed. They do not hurt. I finished my antibiotics, and feel fine everywhere else, I just want to know why my ears are still blocked, and what I can do.
Very likely because your ears were blocked and you had no pain with this, you might have had some fluids in the area behind the eardrums. This is common with common cold and because fluid builds up in the area behind the ear drum then the hearing is reduced as well. This is generally a self limiting condition and should get better in a couple of weeks, sometimes it takes up to 6 weeks to improve. In adults this is nothing of concern, we just give the time for it to go away. If this is going for longer then 6 weeks you will need to see your doctor again and try to find out if there is something else causing it or anything else wrong with the ears.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
