What Causes Blood And Green Mucousy Particles In Infant Stools?
hello, i have a 7 week old son. i breastfeed mainly, supplementing a few times a day with regular(not soy) formula. the other day i thought i noticed a few tiny specks of blood in his stool-i took him to the pediatrician she tested it and said she didnt find any blood. today i didnt see blood but a few of his stools have been green and mucousy with hardly any particles in it. i am just looking for a second opinion-i have read that this could be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance or a food allergy-i do eat a lot of dairy but i have this whole time. should i try to take him to another doctor? he is not vomiting and does not have a fever, and besides that is peeing and pooping fine. thank you
As the stool test was negative for blood, we need not worry. Green colour and some occasional mucus staining can be taken as normal. Milk allergy from formula sometimes can cause this but is usually associated with other symptoms like abdominal distension or vomiting. If persisting, try to exclude formula milk and see the response.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
