What Causes Blood Clots In Menstrual Bleeding?

I have a concerning question.I jus started my monthly cycle yesterday and I passed a large blood clot last night three times bigger than a quarter.Since then I ve been passing smaller amounts. I jus started a birth control in September with nuva-ring but only for that month.Haven t used it since.Could the big blood clot be from me using the birth control?I m also experiencing pain slightly more than a usual cramp.

Hello
I share your concern
Looking at your description you might be having PID or inflammation of genitourinary tract.

Large clot in Menstrual bleeding is a matter vof concern and it warrnats detailed evaluation like colposcopic examination, urine culture and vaginal swab culture and an ultrasound if need be.

Pain and cramps is further suggestive of inflammatory pathology, you may require a course of antibiotics under medical supervision.

Meanwhile have plenty of fluids and maintain good hygiene.
Hope this answers your question, please do let me know if you have any more queries, I will happily answer you.
Best wishes
