My mother is 85 and is dealing with some serious health problems .. she is dealing with blood clots in her leg and in both her lungs and now she has a bad vowel obstruction.. the dirties has a tube down her throats and doing what the called putting her stomach to sleep trying to allow rest to untwist her intestines.. in three days they are going to restart her bowels
Prolonged immobilization, smoking, normal therapy etc in an elderly patient can trigger. a blood clot in deep veins of legs called Deep vein thrombosis/ DVT. The clot in leg breaks off and travel to the lungs called pulmonary embolism, resulting in breathing difficulties, cardiac arrhythmias and even sudden death. Treatment is with medications that lyse the clot off and prevent further clot formation like heparin and warfarin.
