Hello and welcome to HCM,
Blood in urine needs to investigated aggressively because painless blood in urine in elderly is indicative of
urinary bladder malignancy.
You have mentioned that you are experiencing pain on sides, however, it is not clear by your history which sides or what is the exact site of pain.
Pain in lower back may or may not be associated with blood in urine.
I suggest you to get urine examination for malignant cells.
In case of malignancy of urinary bladder, a number of malignant cells are exfoliated into the urine.
Urinary tract infection (UTI) can also lead to blood in urine, however, in UTI the amount of blood in urine is subtle and not gross.
In case there is evidence of infection in urine, I suggest you to get an urine culture to identify the causative organism.
If urine culture is positive, drug sensitivity needs to be done wherein most sensitive antibiotic is selected.
The lower back correlates with UTI. Treatment of UTI will cure the pain also.
Thanks and take care
