Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!
I appreciate your care and concern for your colleague. Actually the causes of nose bleeds are many such as
1) Any trauma or injury
2) Nasal polyps
3) Nasal irritation and dryness
4) Aspirin usage
5) Sinusitis
6) Any bleeding disorders like hemophilia
7) Any malignant tumors of the
nasal cavity. Your colleague might have taken Aspirin. Just enquire about it. Excessive rubbing of the nose is also one of the causes.
1) Compression of soft nasal structures against the
nasal septum for 10 minutes is the preliminary measure.
2) If the bleeding doesn't stop or recurs, nasal packing is necessary with an
anesthetic,
vasoconstriction medication.
3) If bleeding is very severe, he may require intravenous
fluid therapy to maintain blood pressure. So, it is better to go for the ED to avoid any undue complications. From the above mentioned symptoms, it is clear that he is suffering from respiratory infection, mostly of upper tract. Treatment recommendations for respiratory infections are as follows:
1) Steam inhalation
2) Antibiotic like tab.
Amoxicillin with Clavullanic Acid 625mg, thrice daily for 5 days.
3)
Chest physiotherapy, if productive cough is intense. Most important is to control bleeding first. Only then can he go for the above treatment.
Hope you understand the importance of consulting doctor in person. Any further queries are always welcome with pleasure. Please do write to us for further assistance.
Thank you.
Take care
