What Causes Blood In Cough Inspite Of Taking Trenaxa?
Hi, My father was patient of TB 15 years ago. He took proper medication and completed medicine course. Nowadays blood is coming in cough. He took Trenaxa 500 for 10 days ... It worked and cough in blood stopped but after 30 days it again started. Should he start taking Trenaxa again ? Please suggest.
Blood in sputum is called as hemoptysis. I would like to mention few causes of hemoptysis because it's an important sign of dangerous conditions: 1) Infectious causes like abscess, bronchiectasis, fungal infection, tuberculosis 2) Cardiovascular causes like congestive cardiac failure, bronchovascular fistula, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension 3) Primary lung cancer 4) Lung metastasis 5) Chronic obstructive airway disease
When a patient comes to my clinic with similar complaints, I would suggest the following: 1) chest X-ray 2) CT chest if necessary 3) Sputum examination 4) Bronchoscopy
So please do not neglect blood in cough or sputum. Kindly go see a pulmonologist to conduct the above mentioned tests and know the specific diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Kindly stop using tranexamic acid.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
