Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I noticed two days ago that I had some blood in my phlegm when I spit into the sink. Today I was walking and had a discharge of blood from my rectum. I have no aches or pains and feel perfectly normal The blood from my rectum was pailess and resulted from a fart only I really didn’t’ initiate the fart. It seems to just happen without my knowledge. It was bright red. I had a colonoscopy within the last year and a half. I also have a doctors appointment tomorrow but am concerned and looking for possibilities/probabilities.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Blood in sputum or blood from rectum may possible with thrombocytopenia or coagulation problem seen liver dysfunction, etc. Otherwise both are different entities, like bronchitis or bronchectasis or gingival bleed or tuberculosis, etc. Painless bleeding may be due to colon or rectal malignancy or internal hemorrhods bleed or irritation or anal mucosa, etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Need colonoscopy, sputum examination and microscopy of stools. Please consult your gastroentrologist he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
