Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have recently noticed some light color blood in my saliva in the morning. I do sleep with a fan on and was wondering if that might be causing it. I had a full CBC blood work done in July. I also noticed my nose is very dry when I wake up. All my blood work came back fine. Any suggestions please.
Hello, Thank you for asking at HCM. I carefully read your question and understand your concern. Dry nose mucosa can cause some bleeding and also blood in saliva so in your case I would recommend to not use the fan during the night as it may dry the air and make the symptoms worse or at least use some vaseline or petrolium jelly in the inner nose area before bed so they are kept wet and smooth. If bleeding continues after these measures than you will need to see a doctor to examine your mouth, throat and nose mucosa and also very likely will ask for a chest xray also. The teeth and gingiva can be a cause of the bleeding also and might be considered during examination. Make sure you have a good hygiene of the mouth and good care for the gingiva by brushing regularly, flossing and mouth washes and removing dental plaques as needed. Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
