What Causes Blood In Semen?

Hi. My boyfriend just ejaculated and his semen had a very large amount of fresh blood in it. He says it's happened before - very occasionally though - and when he's incredibly turned on. He's more curious then worried - I on the other hand, am quietly freaking out for him!
