Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
After taking 600 mg of Advil 4X daily as directed following shoulder surgery, I developed tarry stools and surgeon said to stop after 10 days. Meanwhile I had a CT scan for another reason and it disclosed primary duodenitis. I had no such symptoms prior to surgery. I cannot see a GI doc until June 28. I have a lot of abdominal discomfort and am trying to adjust my diet and/or find out how to medicate for relief.
* Seemingly related to development of duodenal inflammation with or without ulcer via intake of Advil on regular basis after shoulder surgery.
The current addition of proton pump inhibitor as pantoprazole (40 mg) twice a day on empty stomach will help a great deal to sooth the duodenum, till you meet your GI specialist.
Remember to avoid all spices, non-veg, junk foods, dairy items till that time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
