Hello,
There are many causes for blood in the stool:
-foreign body
-bleeding from stomach or intestine
-polyp in intestine
-
anal fissure, constipation(hard stools)
-medications
However, fewer that cause
blood in stool WITH pus:
-certain bacterial infections
-inflammatory bowel disease
This list indicates your granddaughter needs to be examined by her paediatrician.
I strongly recommend that when you bring her for her appointment that you also bring a sample of a recent stool. If possible, one that contains both blood and pus.
After collecting a specimen from diaper by scraping it with a clean Popsicle stick into an empty glass jar with lid, you can place into brown paper bag and store in frig. until time to go to the doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
