What Causes Blood In Stool And Vomit After Drinking Alcohol?
My husband has been having blood in his stool on occasion after drinking alcohol. It doesn't happen all the time. Last night he also threw up blood after drinking. It is bright red. Is this something that is common? We want to take him to the doctor but he is unisured. We are working on getting him on my insurance but it won't kick in until the end of the month. Does this sound serious or could we wait until he is insured?
there are many possibilities. they are all bad. Irritation of the stomach and esophagus can lead to ulcer, which would be severe if it makes the stool red. Ripping something with vomiting.. also bad if stool red. Not able to clot blood. bad if stool red. Liver failure, etc. These are all serious. Mostly improved if stopping all alcohol (but can be withdrawal complications). Aspirin like drugs are really really bad in this context and make bleeding much worse.
