Hello,
Thank you for your query
Yes she needs to go to the ER right away.
Bleeding had to be controlled and the cause treated.
This could be due to an ulcer, poly,
inflammatory bowel disease, sever
gastrointestinal infection,hemorrhoids.
I would do a rectal exam,
colonoscopy, endoscopy, to locate the source of the bleed. She would need urgent blood tests to determine
blood group,
hemoglobin levels, clotting defects in addition to routine tests.
She may also require blood transfusions if the loss has been massive
If she already has a history of gastrointestinal bleed, peptic /duodenal ulcers, alcoholism, intestinal tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, you should inform her doctor and take the previous medical records to the ER.
Expect to be hospitalized for at least a couple of days. She should take someone along.
Hope this helps
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
