Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I was told to start taking red yeast rice, I have 2 stent so am taking Brilinta . I took one red red yeast pill and have now have bleeding and stool coming at the other end. When to hospital . They stop the Brilints and gave me Plavix. Was told the Dr. not to stop Brilinta for a year. I have stop the Brilinta until I stop bleeding. I can not take statins. Any info would be help for me
Brilinta is a medication used to stop clotting, this is the reason that it would be suggested with your history of stents. Because it decreases clotting, there would also be an increased risk of bleeding. Bleeding is the side effect of all medications that decrease clotting. This is the reason that the Brilinta was stopped temporarily. It is not related to the red yeast rice which is used to help with the cholesterol.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
