What Causes Blood In Stool?

I just found blood in my stools and there was blood when I wiped. I m 51 and I ve never had a colonoscopy done. Should I call my Dr. to schedule one? This has me worried. I ve felt very bloated all day long. I feel better now that I ve had a bowel movement. Any suggestions would be helpful. I m trying not to panic. Thanks.
