What Causes Blood In Stools, Recurring Constipation And Diarrhea With Pencil Thin Stools?
Hi, I am having a few strange symptoms and I am not sure if they are related at all. First of all I am 51 160 lbs and 5 2 . I had a routine test that showed blood in my bowel movement. I have a colonoscopy scheduled in a week. I also had sever swelling in both feet and ankles a few months ago that lasted for about two weeks. (I could leave an indent of a thumb print in the swelling it was that severe. I have also been having changes in my bowel movement that range from constipation to diarrhea and on occasion pale pencil thin stools. I now have a metal taste in my mouth that I have had for a week. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Your symptoms suggest inflammatory colon conditions ranging from irritable bowel syndrome to possible colorectal malignancy. It needs urgent consultation of gastroenterologist & needful investigations like endoscopy. The pitting edema feet & ankle can follow anemia & hypoproteinemia due to indigestion of proteins &bleeding in stools.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
