What Causes Blood In Stools?

Hi. I actually have a couple issues since i m here. Two actually. A) for the last couple of days there has been blood in my stool. I m not spotting. I m bleeding. My stool is red/brown but definitely there is blood IN the stool. And when I wiped, there is clearly new, bright red blood on the toilet paper. Also, if I just sit down and don t go, I still must wipe back there because i m bleeding. NOTE: I must add that I have been drinking smooth move tea for last few days BUT: I have used it many times before as I have constipation issues. Also, I fast every couple of years and I use it then too. But NOTHING like this has happened... B) my other issue is something I don t have any idea what to do. I was in an accident when I was about 17 and from what the doctor says I got major whiplash. (my doctor NOW said that. I was never looked at after accident). I was also a gymnast for 10 years. So here s my predicament: I had an exam along with x-rays about two weeks ago. If you saw the x-ray you could CLEARLY see that I have major damage in my neck. I mean major. My neck is more arthritic than not and has infiltrated three of my discs almost completely. I have my own copies of the exray. But the thing is, my doctor wants to give me basically advil. I don t have any problems with that. I don t want drugs. I want treatment. But unless my doctor recommends it, my insurance could give a &*%^. My insurance is shitty. I think it s medical or something. Obamacare. I can t afford better insurance at this time but CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET THEM TO CARE?! THE X-RAYS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!!! Also, it is my belief that I have at least 2 disks that are damaged. I NEED AN MRI if for nothing else to count out any injuries. But they re real, and i m in PAIN every day. Ugh! I m sorry but I have no idea who to ask. I call them and NO one knows a d@#! thing!! Thank you for your time, I m guessing this is not exactly what you we re wanting to hear. So thank you again, Elizabeth Carlsen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have history of constipation, so take a lot of fluid (water, soup, juice) and fiber in your diet. Take laxatives at bed time. Blood in the stool can be due to hemorrhoid / piles, anal fissures, IBS, gastrointestinal issues, etc. Take sitz baths and apply pilex ointments for relieve. You can take oral antibiotics if needed for better healing after consultation and clinical examination with a GP.

Since you have history of cervical disc issues you are suggested to visit an orthopedic or a GP and give him detailed history of your past and present illness. Tell him about the discomfort and symptoms that you are experiencing and get clinically examined. Your treating doctor will assess your clinical condition, inform you about the blood tests & other investigations that you have to go through before he detects the pathology causing your restlessness. Get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
