What Causes Blood In The Sputum?

Hi!Doctor My enquiry is about my father. About 4-5 yrs back after having lunch my father had coughed out blood number of times partly old and partly fresh blood.He has ecosprin.After a few tests nothing was found. @ yrs back he had angioplasty because of blockage in two of his arteries.One with 80% and the other with 90%.After that he was ok .Since few months the doc.prescribed him with ecosprin gold. Now,2days back he coughed out blood old and fresh after having lunch.He was admitted to a hospital where the doctor stopped the ecosprin gold...he was given saline with few injections.The bleeding stopped that very day...only spots of old blood is seen with his sputum which is more or less negligible...sputum test ,ecg and other tests result was all good...Pls advise why is this happening..(.worried daughter).

Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Ecosprin gold is having aspirin, clopidogrel and atorvastatin.
Aspirin is having anticoagulant property.
So it prevent blood coagulation.
And blood coagulation is must to stop bleeding.
So it is common to see bleeding in patients taking aspirin.
It is due to prevention of blood clotting. So blood will not stop. And as and when you stop aspirin, blood will start clotting and bleeding will stop.
Same is happening in your father's case.
Since his other reports are normal, no need to worry much for major diseases.
Blood in sputum is due to aspirin only.
