What Causes Blood In The Stool?

My brother is 54 years old and is currentlly on warfarin for a hole in his heart he is going to have repaired. In the meantime, he has had bloody stools. In his twenties he had a lot of problems with hemroids and had to have surgery. Can the warfarin be causing this or can it possiby be something else?
