What Causes Blood In Urine After Under Going BCG Treatment?

I m in the 3rd week of a once/week BCG treatment for non-aggressive carcinova within my bladder. My symptom, drops of blood at end of urine stream started 4 1/2 years ago. A transection was performed by my Dr with follow up Cystos every 3 months. I had no reoccurance for 2 years when on that anniversity the PA who does the Cystos noticed a suspicious area. Back to another Transection with same results and instead of going to a 6 month Cysto, I was put back on a 3 month schedule and the first 6 week BCG series. I had no ill affects with this BCG series. In the middle of last year another suspicious area and another Transection with same pathology. Four months later another suspicious area and Transection which required wearing a cathader for a week and another BCG scheduled 3 weeks ago. I have been having fever, what looks like skin clot passing with red-orange drips at end of urination and body aches. I was told to take Aleve for fever and told the urine color would go away which it did. The red-orange drips at the end of urine stream was said to be the Iodine injected into the penis prior to the catheder insertion for BCG injection. The Urology center has gone through a change of ownership and new people. I guess my question is one of a thought I am being used. There is no camera views of all these Cystos & Transections and I put my trust in my Dr who stayed with the practice. I have had to request copies after the fact of Pathologies which were never sent to my primary care physician. I would like another opinion as I never saw blood in my urine after the first occurance 4 1/2 years ago except after a Transection. I ve always had pictures of invasive procedures. I like my Dr but, he appears to leave everything to the staff after I see him in the recovery area.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation you are going through. The presence of blood at the end of urination is for 2 main reasons:

1. carcinoma itself but it has been perfectly dominated through BCG treatment
2. Invasive BCG treatment as it might lacerate the mucosa of organs where it enters.

This is temporary as you have noted yourself it has gone a few days after the procedure I recommend to always follow up with your caring doctor. Ask/insist the specialist office to send a copy of transcript to your primary care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
