Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Blood In Urine Along With Painful Urination?
My boyfriend was using the bathroom, having a bowel movement and peeing at same time something popped he passed a small blood clot. Later on he noticed small blood spots in his underwear where his penis was...he has not had any more bleeding but hurts when he pees.
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. While the concern for this depends on his age somewhat (bladder cancer is more of a concern with age above 35), regardless, he should have a urinalysis and other blood tests done to look for infection, and if a cause is still not clear, a cystoscopy, in which they use a scope to look at the bladder, may be necessary. With the amount of bleeding he is having, I would suggest seeing a doctor within in the next day or so, either in the clinic or ER.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
